Laurie Phillips first became interested in ancient languages (Egyptology) before turning to law (international contracts). She then worked for the French Community’s IT services integrator, where she caught the ‘IT bug’ before joining the FPS Economy, SMEs, Self-Employed and Energy. She initially worked in security and crisis management (telecommunications, etc.) before becoming CISO of the FPS Economy and team leader of the FPS Economy’s Departmental Crisis Unit. She has been passionate about personal data protection, civil resilience and cybersecurity for many years.
When I was younger, I had no idea that I would become a CISO; I didn’t even know what it meant. Constantly learning, daring to be curious, and pushing your own limits are the only requirements for working in the IT sector : everything else can be learned. If you’re not yet considering a career in IT, don’t worry: you’ll meet some fantastic people along the way (architects, network managers, SOC managers, and yes, even CISOs and DPOs) and you’ll never be bored again.
